Quarter Beef Deposit
This listing is for a deposit to purchase a quarter beef with local pick up only. The deposit is $100 that will be applied to your beef purchase amount. This is sold by hanging weight at $3.25 per pound, which is the weight of the carcass once the offal has been removed. By selling the meat this way you are not paying for the yucky stuff or waste that was inside the animal at butchering time. Animals are never the same, but they are usually between 700 - 900 pounds hanging weight. Divide the hanging weight by four and that’s what you’ll pay for your quarter of an animal.
We will give your contact information to Highland Post in Orange City, Iowa for processing once an appointment has been set up. They will contact you and help you fill out your cut sheet accordingly. Once we have a hanging weight from Highland Post, we will contact you about final payment for the beef itself. Highland Post will charge you directly for processing. An estimate for processing is about $1.25 a pound of meat received and you can pay when you pick up your goodies. The only downside with a quarter beef it that you need to have similar cutting instructions as the people who are getting the other quarter in your half. So convince a friend or someone you can easily persuade to get the same cuts as you to buy the other quarter!
You can expect to receive anywhere from 50-60% of the hanging weight in meat. This is because hanging weight includes the bones and other trimmings that we don’t always want. But you can request dog bones and oxtail from the butcher to utilize some of that!
